Crosty Creative Director George Mikaia sums up his most important trend of the season with the phrase “retro basket” – a little nostalgic, a little sporty and a lot of cool. If you’re not familiar, Crosty is a Georgian-born brand that combines bold design with a sleek, avant-garde approach; finally, leading to the association of a “retro tennis and basketball vibe” with “futuristic lines and new technologies” for its winter fall.

Mikaia notes that green is the new black on the sneaker scene right now. “This color detail gives a retro vibe to the collections, bringing people back to the old sporting feeling,” he says. “I remember the green combined with the off-white tones of my childhood and the old sports magazines that featured the Olympics. My inspirations come from this period and the feelings that accompanied it.

New balance

New Balance is a household name in the sneaker industry, but that doesn’t mean it’s not all about innovation. In fact, lifestyle shoe designer Charlotte Lee took inspiration from the success of the must-have sneakers of the 70s as a starting point to create the winter collection.

“The ’70s trend wasn’t going anywhere anytime soon, and I immediately went back to the archives and thought to myself: what did I miss? Lee said. “During this research, I came across an old ad campaign showcasing the latest outsole technology called ‘Three of the Best.’ Knowing that we wanted this project to push the boundaries of where we were before, I set out to work by incorporating all three different outsole patterns into one shoe.

She also notes that her intention in creating new designs is not to push for something that is too trendy and will quickly lose attention. “I can’t help but link the popularity of classic sneakers to the fact that consumers are making better and more sustainable choices. Classic sneakers are more versatile because they can be worn in most settings, ”she told TZR.

With a twist


Koio is a sneaker brand known for its minimalist appeal, but this season co-founder Johannes Quodt is adding a twist to his signature styles. He says: “Our Capri in Triple White will always be a bestseller, but this season we wanted to play with color. We chose tones that would stand out from the typical winter blacks and subdued grays – think deep greens, reds, and navies – while also complementing an evolving wardrobe.

The brand is also evolving beyond the ankle-grazing styles that have been a favorite over the past seasons and introducing new silhouettes into the mix. “Hi-top shoes and retro-style sneakers are having a great time and are perfectly suited for the season. If you like the rising trend, our Court in Distressed has a nice, worn look. All in all, if you’re looking to get out of your comfort zone without overdoing it, Koio’s Winter Drop is definitely for you.

What is the sneaker industry without the hype? Sneaker enthusiasts spend every season in search of the next ‘It’ shoe – and Jennifer Bandier, founder and brand head of famous retailer Bandier, nailed it.

“I live in the New Balance 990v5 and wanted to find other styles with a similar design but with a little more color.” His recommendation? People have been stuck in their homes for so long that they just want to feel free, ”he says of the inspiration for the style. “Heavy boots and hiking boots are great if you’re in the woods, but if you’re running to the grocery store or on vacation, you just want to stay cool. Allbirds is known for marrying sleek style with comfort and functionality, coined as “just the right amount of nothing” by Jamie McLellan, the brand’s vice president of design for the future. “I was inspired by the lines of a wrap dress, which creates an unmistakably feminine shape through a fluid design,” explains product designer Natalia Candrian. “The drapes of a wrap dress are reminiscent of Allyson’s workplace, similar to the lines that denote a race track.” While Felix’s running serves as the point of contact for design, the shoes are meant to “bridge the worlds of professional and casual – a sneaker to go with women anytime, anywhere”.

Dsquared2 is known for its hard-hitting and eye-catching designs in clothing and accessories. “Our inspiration is drawn from our heritage combined with the major trends of the moment, we are always listening to what is cool and what our consumers want! says Dean Caten, who is the co-founder with his brother Dan. At present, he explains his interest in “exaggerated silhouettes and eye-catching logos, different styles renewed with innovative materials and printing techniques.
