The Chandigarh Police Criminal Branch on Saturday arrested two local traders for selling substandard items using well-known branded packaging.

The accused have been identified as Kapil Dev, 30, and Ashok Kumar, 32, both residents of Kajheri village. Police said Kapil owns Ganesh Karyana store in Sector 52, Kajheri and Ashok own RK businesses in the same area. Police said traders bought substandard consumable items like salt, tea and detergent, repackaged and sold them.

Police arrested them based on information provided by Romesh Dutt of Speed ​​Search and Security Networks Private Limited in Sector 34, Chandigarh. He informed the police about the sale of duplicate / counterfeit daily use products and consumables of well-known brands in these two stores.

At the Ganesh Karyana store, the fake items recovered included 765 kg of salt, 332 kg of detergent and 242.8 kg of tea. Police recovered fake items from RK’s businesses, including 6520 kg of salt and 69.25 kg of tea.

A case under section 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code and 63, 65 of the Copyright Act was registered at the Police Station in Sector 36

From preliminary examination, he revealed that they obtained these duplicate products from Delhi. The defendants were brought to court on Saturday and taken into police custody for two days.
