A team of shoplifters who repeatedly raided high-end stores along the Mag Mile and Rush Street to steal handbags this summer have struck at least three more times – and they could improve their game with more aggressive tactics.

Police first notified the team’s retailers on June 25. When the violators struck again, detectives issued another warning on July 8. Now there are even more cases.

Previous CPD alerts said a small group of delinquents were breaking into businesses, grabbing handbags from display tables and rushing to a getaway car.

The crew struck June 8 on Block 100 in East Delaware, June 13 on Block 700 in North Michigan and July 3 on Block 1 in East Grand, according to the second alert.

CWBChicago learned that the crew returned to the area and raided DIOR, 931 North Rush, around 12:30 p.m. on Sunday August 15. Between six and eight thieves rushed into the store, grabbed expensive handbags and rushed to two waiting cars. outside: a gray four-door Audi A7 and a silver Jeep with Minnesota license plates. Both cars were reportedly stolen.

On Monday, the same cars stopped at Ikram at 15 East Huron just before 3 p.m. Seven would-be muggers attempted to enter the store, but staff refused to let them in. So staff sprayed pepper on a nearby housekeeper. and fled.

Less than 30 minutes later, they reached the Gucci store at 900 North Michigan. According to a CPD report, seven or eight men entered the store, smashed windows and fled in the Jeep and Audi.

CPD’s July alert said the crew consisted of two to four black men in their twenties to mid-twenties, measuring 5’10 “to 6’3”, weighing 165 to 185 pounds and carrying hoodies.

Surveillance video of Monday’s incidents shows the group has grown significantly. A source who saw video of the crew from the latest raids said the offenders appeared to be younger, possibly in their late teens or early twenties. Again, they were all wearing hoodies in different colors.
