Titans drop Game 2 in Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. –Cal State Fullerton Baseball dropped Game 2 of its series at CSU Bakersfield, 5-3, Saturday night at Hardt Field. The Titans are now 9-16, 4-4 in conference.

After dropping Game 1 of the series in the 11th inning Friday night, the Titans got off to a bit of a slow start Saturday night as the Roadrunners took a 2-0 lead, scoring a run in the first and second innings.

The Titans threw at bats in the top of the fifth inning, scoring three runs on five hits to take the lead. Jason Brandow started the inning with a single before back-to-back hits from Brendan Bobo and JT Navyac brought it home to put the Titans on the board.

Jack Haley was sure to register a productive out to score Bobo, but a Bakersfield field error allowed him to reach base before dropping second on a home pitch. A batter later, Jackson Lyon drove Haley in to give the Titans a 3-2 lead.

CSU Bakersfield came back to take the lead in the bottom of the seventh inning, scoring three runs on just two hits.

Christian Rodriguez had another quality outing for the Titans. Rodriguez pitched 6.1 innings, allowing three runs on just four hits.

The Titans are looking to avoid the sweep on Sunday in Game 3 and final at Bakersfield. The first pitch is scheduled for 1:05 p.m. at Hardt Field.
