Woolworths supermarket shopper warning after spotting little-known fact on back of chicken purchase

A Woolworths customer has raised question marks after spotting an easy-to-miss detail on the back of a popular chicken buy.

Sharing on Twitter, the Sydney shopper said he was confused after taking a closer look at the storage instructions on a packet of Woolworths Chicken Chops.

The label stated that the meat was “not suitable for home freezing”.

The news may come as a shock to many Woolies customers who are used to keeping packets of chicken mince – a handy ingredient in many everyday recipes – in the freezer.

In his social media post, Twitter user Phil asked Woolworths to explain why the popular grocery item couldn’t be frozen at home.

“Your chicken mince has a warning ‘not suitable for freezing at home’, any idea why?” He asked.

“Perhaps a previously frozen and thawed product? Could you find me please? »

The buyer went on to add that he just “just checked and the Coles Chicken Hash doesn’t have the same warning.”

Woolworths responds

However a Woolworth The spokesperson told 7NEWS.com.au that this no-home freezing recommendation only applies to minced chicken from one of its suppliers.

“Storage instructions are provided on our labels to help customers follow the correct instructions at home to ensure food safety and maintain product quality,” the spokesperson said. “One of our chicken ground meat suppliers freezes the meat as part of their production process and therefore it is not recommended to freeze ground meat after purchase.”

It is believed that only one supplier of Woolworths Chicken Ground Meat follows this process and therefore not all Woolworths Chicken Ground Meat will carry this information on the label.

Woolies customers are encouraged to consult the package label to verify storage instructions.
